Writer's Log

Today's ending word count: 23,662.

Hats off to all the writers who sit down and do the work! I've been pretty frustrated lately - my mind is grinding on the middle part of the story - I need to be visited by my muse. Each sentance I go for is like going to the well and pulling up a bucket of water and hoping the well isn't dry.

More tomorrow.

  1. Perhaps try to back off a bit. I don't like the idea of "grinding" with regards to writing. It makes the whole endeavor seem arduous, like working in a coal mine.

Plus, if it feels like grinding work, it may turn out to be grinding reading, and no one wants that. During the middle stretch of one of my novels, there was a long training montage sequence. It felt so familiar that I decided to cut it entirely and not write it. Doing so added to the story by heightening the tension, and instantly boosted my own interest in the story.

You may want to also try working on another project (perhaps a short story). Or read other books or watch movies that inspired this project in the first place. In time the necessary information will be made clear. Do you write from an outline? Or more by the seat of your pants via instinct?
